Dean Colls and Lu Skacej are both trained sculptors and have worked professionally in design, construction, private and public commissions, film, theater and education.

In 1997 Dean and Lu joined forces to establish a business dedicated to creating sculpture that exists outside the rarefied gallery environment.

Their aim was to create original sculptural designs that are meaningful to people in their day to day lives and the result is aludean a play on both the artists' names which also aptly captures Dean and Lu's collaborative approach to their work.

Today aludean is a dynamic sculpture and design house with a distinctive folio that includes their retail range, public, private and corporate commissioned works and collaborative design projects such as "Fleming's Nurseries Float Garden" to be featured at the Chelsea Flower Show in May 2005.

The current aludean range is manufactured 'in house' and works with the elements of water, light, fire and charcoal concrete producing minimalist, meditative pieces with simple architectural proportions that draw the viewer into quiet contemplation and create a sense of sanctuary.

A defining feature of aludean products is that each piece is modular and can be reconfigured with the rest of the range to produce design options for both indoor and outdoor applications that include intimate table top fountains, furniture, planters, wall cladding, braziers and large-scale water features. The result of this is that the end user is involved in the creative process and can configure the separate elements to suit their individual needs.
